Fare Calculation

Bye Bye Fare Jungle!

The VBN Trip Planner is the simplest and quickest way to get through the thicket of fares and zones. Because the VBN is easy: one fare schedule and one ticket for the individual destination. To do this, just look for the connection you want and select “Fare Overview” there. The Price Stage and all of the VBN ticket offerings possible for the connection you want will be displayed immediately.

The level of the fare depends on the number of fare zones you travel through.

The VBN area is divided into five fare zones:

  • Fare Area 1: Municipal area of Bremen comprising Zone 100 (Bremen-City) and Zone 101 (Bremen-North)
  • Fare Area 2: Zone 250 (Bremerhaven)
  • Fare Area 3: Zone 740 (Oldenburg)
  • Fare Area 4: All zones in the VBN network in Lower Saxony, except those in Fare Areas 3 (= Zone 740 (Oldenburg)) and 5 (= Zones 130 (Verden), 709/710 (Delmenhorst) and 850 (Nordenham))
  • Fare Area 5: Zone 130 (Verden), Zones 709/710 (Delmenhorst) and Zone 850 (Nordenham)

Within Fare Area 4 or for connections between Fare Area 4 and one of Fare Areas 1, 2, 3 or 5, the alphabetical Price Levels A to H and S apply. Here, Price Level S applies only between Bremen and a few towns and communities in the immediate vicinity in Lower Saxony. For journeys into Bremen, or out of Bremen, the fare zones of Price Level S should also be counted.

1 fare zone travelled = Price Level A, 2 fare zones travelled = Price Level B, … 8 and more fare zones travelled = Price Level H. Price Level H tickets entitle holders to travel throughout the entire network. Fare zones travelled through twice are counted only once. Journeys within one fare zone and journeys from a neutral zone to a neighbouring zone and vice versa are classed as Price Level A. For journeys that go beyond the network area, the fare schedule valid outside the VBN applies.

In the Fare Areas 1 (Bremen), 2 (Bremerhaven), 3 (Oldenburg) and 5 (Delmenhorst, Nordenham and Verden), Price Level I applies (PL I Bremen, PL I Bremerhaven, PL I Oldenburg, PL I Delmenhorst, PL I Nordenham and PL I Verden).
