In the VBN network you can pay for your VBN tickets by GeldKarte at more and more transport companies, on the means of transport, at ticket outlets or at ticket machines, and also store it electronically on the chip of the GeldKarte. At VBN we refer to this as "chip payment": load your GeldKarte, select a ticket, pay for your ticket without cash, store your ticket on the card, commence your journey - and arrive satisfied. Paper tickets are a thing of the past because your ticket is already on your GeldKarte.
When you purchase Single Tickets for adults and Short Hop Tickets (KurzstreckenTickets) with your GeldKarte there is a discount of 10%.
In Bremen, Oldenburg and Bremerhaven you can also purchase tickets with your GeldKarte at the mobile touchscreen machines, which are cashless ticket machines on the means of transport. When you have entered your destination, these machines automatically calculate the appropriate fare category without you having to have any special knowledge of the tariff. Naturally you can display the credit on your GeldKarte and your electronically stored tickets at the mobile touchscreens.
Inspectors have a special tester with which they can check your electronically stored ticket.

Cash Card
... is a function which is available on almost all bank cards and savings bank cards.
It is very likely that you have just such a card in your wallet or purse. The GeldKarte is not a new card but a small gold-colored chip on your bank card or savings bank card and it is, so to speak, an electronic wallet. | |
| You can pay money into this electronic wallet and use it to pay for your VBN tickets and shopping. The relevant amount is then debited to the chip. When the credit has been used up, the card has to be simply reloaded - from your current account direct or in cash. General information about GeldKarte is available on www.geldkarte.de. |
... is a means of payment with which you always have the right money available!
Always pay the exact amount - no need to count coins for paying at checkouts, no need to count the change received.
.... is the ideal method of payment at a ticket machine!
The GeldKarte has evolved to become a successful electronic method of payment in recent years, especially at vending machines and ticket machines. About 60 million cards are in use in Germany. |
 |
... can be reloaded
Credit used up? Card empty? The chip on your GeldKarte can be reloaded with up to € 200 at cash dispensers or special loading machines at banks, saving banks or some VBN ticket outlets. With this credit you can then make small purchases and pay for VBN tickets. You can display your cash credit upon any payment at a cash dispenser, at any other loading terminal or at ticket machines, for example.
... is a storage medium
There is storage space on the chip of the GeldKarte. In this way you can, for example, not only pay for your tickets with the GeldKarte at more and more transport companies in VBN land but also store them electronically on the chip of the GeldKarte. We refer to this as "chip payment". Paper tickets are a thing of the past because your ticket is now on your GeldKarte.
